Dear Self,

Just because it was not raining at the precise moment you left your house this morning, does not mean that it wasn't going to be raining on the East side or later in the day. Just pack the freakin' raincoat already.

Shiveringly,

Me

Dear Self,

The insane deadline is at hand. Batten down the hatches and prepare to work nights this week. You love this sort of adrenaline mad thing, so roll up your sleeves and get to it.

This means less time on LJ, right?

Kisses,

Me

Dear Self,

Despite your apparent hopes, the fridge/freezer are not going to clean themselves out by themselves. You're running out of room. Please remove all the dead things tonight so you can actually find the food that is still edible!

Exasperatedly,

Me

Well, at least my Sunday was superfantastic.

Sunday was an Emily and Cat Day. I am so glad we rescheduled from Wednesday night. We need to have a good chunk of time to have the fun we do, and a weeknight would have been insufficient.

Em came over around noon and we got some pizza dough going in the bread machine and left for the market. Emily had mentioned that she was really craving a good veggie pizza, so we bought lots of tasty things for roasting --red onion, red bells, asparagus, mushrooms-- along with a host of other good things.

Back home, we got cracking. We chopped about a billion veggies to make this potato-leek-zucchini vichyssoise; we roasted veggies and assembled the pizza for grilling. It's funny that a day's labor can be summed up in a single sentence. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of work. Emily was hilariously giddy about the pizza. And everything tasted great. Happy, but tired, we took a break before cleaning the kitchen and starting in on the bittersweet chocolate tart.

It was such a nice long day together, that Em managed to do some school reading and I managed to do laundry. (ALL HAIL ME AND MY BRAVE CONQUEST OF SHEETS AND TOWELS!) Jeff came home around 8:30, after putting in some time at the office, so I grilled him a pizza, too.

I was also fuming a little, because my DVD player is on the fritz. I've ordered some cleaning products from Amazon, but it'll take a day or so to see if that's going to work. I have my brother's old DVD player which works mostly okay in the bedroom, so I can always bring that out. The PS2 is supposed to play DVDs, but just wouldn't. Which is very angry-making. So Em and I were unable to watch Mulan. Boo.

Despite that, it was such a lovely night. I drove Em home and I was so tired that I knew that I really had to have my shit together for this morning. I packed my work bag and gym bag. I figured out what to wear for today. I tidied up the bedroom and put away all the laundry--it's such a good feeling when things are where they belong. It really motivates me to tackle the Office Drawers of Clutter next.

And then... you'd think I would have crashed early, but I was too keyed up. I responded to a bunch of email that I'd been lagging on. I read some brilliant stuff. I stayed up a little late rather rebelliously.

And I still woke up early this morning, unloaded and loaded the dishwasher, and even packed a lunch!

And wow, time is flying by. This Sunday is the mock Thanksgiving I am having with Sarah and Emily (and friends) since they'll be gone for the holiday this year. Which means I need to start cooking on Thursday! And! And!! Just a few days later, Jeff and I leave for Ashland!

Okay, enough avoidance--back to work!

I did! I brought my raincoat today, I'm busting my ass at work, and we cleaned the fridge/freezer last night! Woo!

And yes--being productive always feels so GOOD!!

Mock Thanksgiving started because it's one of my favorite holidays, despite having no root in my own family. (A holiday! To celebrate what you're grateful for! And lots of yummy food! What's not to like?)

So I would make Thanksgiving dinner for some friends, whether or not we could actually get together for a sit-down.

This iteration of Mock T started because Sarah and her little sister Emily are living here and the three of us would get together over Thanksgiving because they didn't go home and like I said above, I don't have a tradition with my family for it.

This year, it's not on Thanksgiving because they are actually flying home and my dad is flying to Seattle to have T-day with me and my older brother.

But this version is my favorite. We cook heaps and eat HEAPS and sit around playing games and petting kitties and it's always sort of laid back and mellow and just nice. It's always my closest friends, so I feel completely relaxed and warm and happy. It's a good, good thing!
