Breaking news: Women are total horndogs.

Jeff was telling me about this article tonight. How some research scientist showed clips of bonobo (a species of ape) sex "to men and women, straight and gay. To the same subjects, she also showed clips of heterosexual sex, male and female homosexual sex, a man masturbating, a woman masturbating, a chiseled man walking naked on a beach and a well-toned woman doing calisthenics in the nude." She then measured their physical response via genital plethysmographs and also quizzed them subjectively.

When quizzed, the men responded fairly commensurately with their physical response and as expected. Gay men were aroused by gay male sex and naked men; straight men were aroused by straight sex, lesbian sex, and naked women.

Women? Were aroused by just about everything. But gay or straight, their physical responses didn't correlate with their subjective responses.

Anyhow, it's a long article and I'm still making my way through it, but I thought it was fascinating enough to share.

While there were quite a few interesting bits, the main conclusion I drew after reading it is that pretty much nothing is known. Or, alternatively, anything goes.

And good to see you made it to the next ginger ale infusion. ;)

As always, you have the perfect icon for any comment!

And sometimes it seems that the outcome of all scientific research is that nothing is really known. *grin* We humans are such freaky creatures, you know?

And ginger ale is the nectar of life--who knew! :)

I had to laugh myself about the icon. Only after I had sent the comment I realised just how appropriate the icon and the text is in relation to the article with all the talk about "subjective" and "objective" measurement. :D

I first thought about adding a remark that it's better that way, that science fails to explain the things going on. But I didn't since I associated it more with "attraction" than "excitement".
Freaky creatures indeed. :)

Again--you have the best icons! :)

I don't think science can ever fully explain the mystery of attraction. Though I think the article and the behaviors noted were sort of fascinating!

You're turned on just thinking about the article, aren't you?
