Good: Just got my PS3. Over the past god-knows-how-many-years I've bought Playstation consoles almost solely to play Final Fantasy games. I have my favorites (7, 10, and epically awesome 12) and mehs (8 and 9) and I didn't bother with the online version. I think 12, with it's strategic battle system has been my favorite. Setting the PS3 up was super easy and I now officially have a Blu-Ray player.

Bad: FF13 SUCKS. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/03/final-fantasy-xiii-review/ It's like they took out every single thing that makes the game awesome. This'll be the first console version of the game I haven't played since college. Mrrrh.

Worst: FF14 is another fucking online game. BOO. It's going to be FOREVER (if ever, I suppose) that another good FF game comes out. Hate.

I would be so pissed right now if I didn't have The Orange Box games en route!!

I didn't think FF13 was as bad as all that--I wouldn't say it *sucked*, and I finished the game, but it's not one of the series' better installments. (It is very pretty, though! And I liked most of the characters.)

Have you played Dragon Age Origins? It is monumentally epic, has great characters, and is full of explore-y RPG goodness. And, the battle system is very similar to FF12. I mention it because your FF preferences line up neatly with mine, and I am generalizing to assume similarity in general RPG taste. Also Dragon Age is great, and everybody who loves long, epic RPGs should play it!

I tried playing it, and I really didn't enjoy it. And then I read the whole article about how there's really no towns and wandering around doing random shit--and that's what I love about FF.

I hated the battles that I fought and the game is pretty, but I don't like the battle system so I figured I was pretty screwed. (I did like Sazh, what little I saw of him, and his chocobo hair-pet!)

I'm going to check out Dragon Age--you're the second person to recommend it!!

FF13: Yeah, the lack of exploring was a big negative for me, too. That's one of the things I love about RPGs in general, the feeling of wandering around and discovering a world.

I actually liked the combat (I may be one of the only people in the world who did), but I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish the game if I hated it. Sazh was definitely my favorite character, with his awesome Dad-ness.

Dragonage: play it! It is great! And it has so much exploring that even though I have played it 4 times, I was still discovering new things the fourth time 'round!

For what it's worth--I'm glad you didn't hate it. But yeah--world exploration FTW!

I bought Dragonage--between you and one other friend recommending it, I'm in! I checked out some gameplay videos on YouTube and it's one good looking game. I should have it on Tuesday, woo!!

Thanks for the rec!!
