feast for crows
Sep. 18th, 2011 07:12 pmSo, I fucking hate the Greyjoys with the heat of a nova. GOD. Every time the chapter turns to Victarion or Aeron or Euron, I just want to kill myself. Asha's hilarious, but I'm not sure she's worth it to have to read all the other crap. Mostly I skim heavily.
Also, random bitch, but I hate all the non-character-named chapters. Like, The Captain of the Guards, the Soiled Knight, The Reaver. The Drowned Man. I'm not sure why I find it so annoying, but I do. I wish they were just named for who they are (e.g., Aeron).
It's also annoying that Sansa's chapters are named Alayne. I mean, all those different names that Arya used didn't change her chapter names.
So, that petty bitchery aside, I find the Cersei chapters intriguing if exasperating because she's so spectacularly clueless. And there's been like three references to her dresses not fitting her belly--pregnant much? But whose child? Trying to figure out the timeline. Doesn't seem possible that it's actually Robert's time wise and considering she kept him drunk and always pulled him out.
It's killing me that Sam and Arya met up in Braavos and Sam doesn't even know who she is, and she doesn't realize how close she came to being potentially reconnected to Jon! Speaking of Jon, brutal trick to swap babies. In such times, I'm not sure I can blame him. Hard on Gilly though. I wondered why she kept sobbing so much and didn't figure it out until GRRM basically told us.
Brienne's journey is interesting to read, even if I have no idea what the point is. I just started rewatching Deadwood and damn if she doesn't come to mind as I watch Calamity Jane. Complete with Wild Renly Hickock.
I also wonder about Margaery's agenda. I mean, she seems to be doing good work reaching out to the common people--something Cersei doesn't have the sense to do. Without a pov, it's hard to know what her plan is. And seriously, with all the casualness of killing, why hasn't someone from Highgarden off'd Cersei yet. She's so tiresomely in the way.
Sansa. Littlefinger continues to totally squick me out more than just about any other character. Though she finally seems to be learning The Game at his feet, by figuring shit out on her own.
I spend so much of my time muttering the names of people I want dead (like Arya) but what I really want is something good to happen to someone decent. For Arya and Sansa to be reunited with Bran and Rickon and Jon. And if Cat isn't incapable of human feeling, for her to be reconnected to her children. Now that Jamie is somewhat free of his relationship with Cersei, I'd like him to find happiness somewhere--even just the full use of his lefthand for swordplay.
I'd like the Seven Kingdoms to have a good ruler who will do good things. Maybe Tommen could be that ruler, but it seems unlikely he'll have the chance to actually rule as an adult. We know the Dany plot is happening somewhere Over There. Word of the dragons is coming through, even if Cersei is totally deaf to it.
Driving me crazy to not know what's going on with Tyrion. What's happening on the Wall with Jon and Stannis' crew. What's going on with Dany--is she ruling Meereen well?
The Dornish plot is interesting enough to me, and doesn't interfere with the main plot too much. Goodbye Arys Oakheart--you foolish, foolish man. What a crazy way to go. Poor Myrcella. Seems the slow, ill Prince wasn't as slow after all. Way to dismantle that plot, dude.
