So I shouldn't just sit around. I mean, not that I don't love sitting around. But I don't want to waste the joy of the day off. So things I should do:

- go to post office
- pick up filing cabinet because rubber bands are no longer de rigueur for bill stubs
- stop by the Bon for wedding shoes and to look at cute swishy dresses
- stop by Nordstrom in search of the perfect bra to wear under the moose-dress
- grocery shop, and for more than diet pepsi
- public market because I feel like filling the house with flowers

Though really, I think I'll go to Nordstrom on Friday because I'll be done with work and don't want to come home and then turn around to go see Margaret Cho. So I can fill my time with that. Makes it all much easier, since I need to be back by 5pm to let Maribel in.

It would be a lot easier if I just gave her a key. But I feel awfully squeamish about it. Not because I think she's going to break into my place and rob me blind. But what if she loses it. Somehow I feel more comfortable just letting her in, running out to do errands, and coming back to a sparkly house.

She's been enormously flexible, and has even picked up/dropped-off the keys at my job. I mean, she's trustworthy. I know two other families who she cleans for, and they have given her their keys.

As a single person, I just feel very protective of my space.

So um. How about some feedback, you brilliant friend's-listers, you?

I get nervous about the idea of hiring a cleaning person, although I have hired people to pet-sit and given them my keys. I think it's something like not wanting someone else to re-arrange everything in my house.

On the other hand, I could certainly use a cleaning service, even if I've made remarkable cleaning strides recently.

It was definitely weird to have someone poking around here. Especially the first time she came and did a thorough cleaning, she rearranged drawers (with permission) in the kitchen/bathroom. And I couldn't find things.

I was here the whole time and doing my own rearranging, so it didn't bother me so much.

Now she just comes and does the things I really, really hate. Like floors. And the bathroom/kitchen. My place never gets really dirty, just cluttery from time to time.

And I feel somewhat sheepish about hiring someone to do my dirty work, but it really makes me so happy. It's wonderful!

I do sometimes wonder if I had someone come in to attack stuff I'd rather not do (the bathroom is a perennially unpopular one, I think), it would be a lot easier to keep tidy. The cleaner something is, the more incentive you have to keep it that way...

And being happy is definitely a good thing.

I highly recommend it. With the stress of work and all the hours of my life it eats (including weekends), I really don't want to spend my spare time scrubbing the tub.

In the first poll question, you left out: "No, and my house is a horrible mess because I never clean it."

I considered hiring a cleaning person, but I couldn't get past the "strange person in my house and touching my stuff" issue.

It is a little weird. But man, it's so freaking worth it. I can clear my clutter and organize and she does all the shit I hate dealing with.

And I used someone who was recommended, so it didn't feel as weird as someone who I picked out of the paper.

I'm thinking that would be the overwhelming top choice if it were made an option... Certainly would be my pick!

Most of the time, my favorite cheese is roquefort. Creamy pungent very "bleu" cheese. Though damn near any cheese eaten in France will be the huge winner in my book. Why do all their cheeses taste so much better than ours???

While I'm not a neat-freak the way my friend Stace is (her house is freaking sterile), I find that if my place is messy it makes me more... messy. Mentally, that is. I mean, it'll depress me a bit. But when my place is clean, it automatically cheers me up.

And I'm not sure why their cheeses have to be so much better, but they really are. I love all bleu cheeses. Can't believe I hated them as a kid!

Maybe 'cause they've had hundreds more years of practice? Or maybe it's their agricultural policies.

My favorite blue cheese is actually not French, it's English. Mmmm, Stilton.
